Sanskriti
I am a teacher, PhD student, and a migrant from India, living and learning in Aotearoa-New Zealand. From another perspective, I am the first-generation woman in my family who has the privilege of pursuing the highest educational qualification in a different country. The question I face is, what do I make of this reality?
Migrating as an adult shifted my developing story of ‘who I am’ to ‘who I am, in this place and time.’ As a teacher, I grapple with fulfilling my role and responsibility towards justice and equity within my classroom. As a PhD student, I explore how people of migrant backgrounds, within the field of education, understand their belonging and place in Aotearoa-New Zealand. Specifically, I inquire into the experiences of women teachers of Indian ethnicity within Aotearoa-New Zealand’s primary schools. I am interested in how teachers frame their accountability towards others, how they understand their roles and responsibilities in their multiple communities, and how I could do and write this research in aesthetic, feminist, and relational ways.
So far, this journey has involved revisiting, renewing, receiving, and remembering many forgotten stories. I hope to listen to many others along the way.

Waqas Ali Muluk
Hi there, I am Waqas Ali Muluk, and I am really passionate about education, youth empowerment, community development, and tackling climate change. Over the past six years, I’ve managed projects, built partnerships, and trained teachers and young people across Pakistan with organizations like GIZ, UNHCR, FHI 360, and RELO-US Embassy. Beyond that, I have enjoyed teaching at Bahria University and researched climate change and food security in my hometown of Chitral for my Master’s thesis. I am eager to connect with like-minded people to work together, in our own limited capacity, to address today’s pressing challenges and create meaningful change for our communities.
